Six ways to Promote Breast Cancer Awareness and Boost your Business

By Tammy Brzeczkowski, updated 2022

It’s just around the corner, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. An internationally organized campaign to increase awareness of breast cancer and help raise funds for research into its cause, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure.

Unfortunately, breast cancer touches 1 in 8 women (12.4%) over the course of her life time according to statistics from www.breastcancer.org. In the US, for women, breast cancer death rates are higher than those for any other cancer, except lung cancer.

As a business, you have an opportunity to help the cause, and at the same time build your business brand. Wondering how? Here are six ways to promote your business, boost your sales, and help women in their fight against Breast Cancer.

#1 Wear Pink Day - The entire organization can get involved and have loads of fun with “Wear Pink Day”. Both genders will have the opportunity to wear as much or as little “pink” to help support a cause that many cases are close to their hearts. Plan a day to wear pink each week throughout the month of October, and promote it in all areas. Take photos throughout the month and share them on Social Media too. Don’t forget to use some hashtags that will get you more visibility, for example, #cancerawareness #breastcancer. Now, another great idea to tag along with that is educating your employees or clients about the disease with bookmarkers. Here’s an educational bookmarker that can be customized with your logo on it with information on early detection of breast cancer. Maybe not everyone has pink apparel. For those that still want to promote the cause, how about a special pin, silicone bracelet, or jewelry that your employees can wear daily as a reminder?

#2 Sell Company T-Shirts or Bandanas. Come up with a company design on Breast Cancer Awareness. Heck, you could even hold a contest for the design itself! Once you have a design, all you need to do is contact your local marketing/print company. Right now, online stores are hot. Get a head start, and host an online  “pink” store. Allow your employees to order ahead of time, in addition, a percentage of your total sales could go towards an organization of your choice that helps with the breast cancer awareness mission.

#3 Create a Pink Photo Booth - Put together a “cancer awareness “photo booth for employees to have fun with on social media. There are lots of fun “pink” props you can utilize and hand out with your logo on. A Breast Cancer Awareness Selfie Kit Hand Fans would be one option. Even providing a Fun Selfie Photo Frame as another alternative.

#4 Pink Treat Day - Schedule “Pink Treat Day(s)” at your company. Encourage employees to bring “pink” treats, and see what they come up with. From cookies to candy or whatever it might be, this is a great opportunity for your employees to get involved. It helps boost morale too. As a company brand idea, imprinting your logo on pink m&m’s or putting together a small gift full of candy that you could provide your entire staff is another morale-building opportunity.

#5 Change Your Logo to Pink for a Month - Something very simple that you can do to promote Breast Cancer Awareness is to switch up your logo to pink for one month. Think about all of the places that you digitally change your logo; your website, social media profile, even in your email signatures. This can be done company wide, and it’s economical. When people see that you are promoting Breast Cancer Awareness it will create that “warm fuzzy” feeling for those that see your company is involved, and that is a plus for your business.

#6 Host A Company Cookout - Provide lunch company wide, call it a “Cook-out for Cancer.” Provide a donation jar at the beginning of the lunch line. It doesn’t have to be just for your employees either, it could be for the public as well. All proceeds go toward cancer research. You could even promote a “Chili Cookoff of Cancer” and hold a tasting contest between employees. Maybe as an added incentive provide aprons for all the chefs. Don’t forget to take photos and share out on social media too!

As a business you don’t have to look far to see opportunities for building your business. Opportunities are everywhere. People buy from people that they know, like, trust and that they can relate too. Emotion also plays a big part in the buying process. While building your marketing campaign for your business think about ways you can touch your client’s hearts, not just their pocket books. When you do this, you’ll go a long way in not only gaining new clients, but in creating a loyal tribe of clients that will last a lifetime. We’d love to help you with your next campaign.
